Protected species & habitats

Many species of plants and animals in England and often their supporting features and habitats are protected. These species are protected by legislation and planning policy and should be a material consideration in the planning process. These species receive protection through the Countryside and Wildlife Act (1981) which is enacted through The Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2010.
